Oscars 2016: The Nominees

He did it Adrian! Sylvester Stallone is an Academy Award nominee once more!

Rocky

The nominations for the 88th annual Academy Awards have been announced, and The Revenant is leading the way with twelve nods, whilst Mad Max: Fury Road has picked up a nice round ten nominations, including the Best Picture category.

Meanwhile Ridley Scott (The Martian) and Quentin Tarantino (The Hateful Eight) miss out on Best Director nods, and Carol, which had been believed to be a frontrunner for Best Picture misses out on the category all together. Guillermo del Toro also had the misfortune of announcing the nominees for Best Costume Design, a category in which his latest film Crimson Peak was overlooked.

Elsewhere, Leonardo DiCaprio is on route to finally bag himself a Best Actor statuette, and his The Revenant co-star Tom Hardy is also a surprise contender for Best Actor in a Supporting Role, joining Stallone in that particular race.

I wish Lily Tomlin was up there.
I wish Jennifer Lawrence was not.
I think Anomalisa should have gotten a Best Picture Nom.
Oh, and the original songs are bullshit.

I agree, I think Lily Tomlin can consider herself unlucky to not be in the running at all, and it’s a shame that the support for Charlize Theron seemed to drop off as we got closer to awards season, but Mad Max did pretty well for itself otherwise.

Brie Larson *should* keep Lawrence at bay this year I reckon. I suppose Writings on the Wall will pick up Best Original Song…meh!

  2. I’ll probably ugly cry if Sly wins, which I think we all know he will.
