The moment we’ve all (or at least some of us) have been waiting for…the first trailer for the new Ghostbusters sequel (?)/reboot (?)/…film has arrived!
First reaction: It’s looking fairly fun, but it’s not the comforting arm around the shoulder I’d been hoping for. Possessed Melissa McCarthy is a little goofy for my taste, but on the whole there’s a few decent laughs here. I’m certainly at least feeling ever so slightly more positive now than I was when the film was first revealed, at which point I wanted to expunge it from existence…
The new lineup of Ghostbusters, Kristen Wiig (The Martian), Kate McKinnon (Ted 2), Leslie Jones (Trainwreck) and Melissa McCarthy (Spy) step into the mighty big shoes of Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson and the late, great Harold Ramis, under the direction of Spy helmer Paul Feig. No pressure Paul!
Murray, Aykroyd and Hudson are set to cameo in the film, alongside Sigourney Weaver and Annie Potts, but unsurprisingly their reveals aren’t given away quite yet in the trailer. The only other major cast member from the original films (barring Ramis) not to be making an appearance will be Rick Moranis, who is no-showing as he continues his hiatus from cinema. I like to think that he’s spent the past 19 years sipping mojitos next to the pool in his garden. Good for him.
Ghostbusters releases July 22nd, 2016.
