It’s that time of year again where the WWE truly kicks off the road to Wrestlemania with the 30 man over the top rope Royal Rumble – who will be victorious in the Rumble match, and who will be joining them as WWE World Heavyweight Champion in the main event of ‘Mania? All shall be revealed! Here are my Rumble predictions, and the winners (you may call me mystic meg)!

The New Day vs. Cesaro, Tyson Kidd and Adam Rose:

Honestly, who is actually invested in this match? The New Day faction features some talented guys, but they really haven’t taken off as had been imagined, and their opponents don’t have much to offer (bar Cesaro, who is being criminally under utilised). I’m going to chalk this one up as a New Day victory to get the ball rolling. Kofi Kingston’s real moment will surely come later in the night in the Rumble itself – it’s just not a modern Rumble without some gravity defying antics from Kingston.

The New Age Outlaws vs. The Ascension:

Yeesh, The Outlaws have not aged well over the past few years. In comparison to their former stable mate Triple H (who apparently doesn’t age), they are starting to look ready for their bus passes. The Ascension on the other hand are on the up after their promotion from the NXT roster – and they’re going to be big! Easy win for the newcomers.

Natalya and Paige vs. The Bella Twins:

Oooh, toilet break! I’m not getting my hopes up too high for this one, a win for Paige would be nice, but I would expect the Bellas to continue their run in the spotlight.

WWE Tag Team Championship Match: The Usos vs. The Miz and Damien Mizdow:

Now we’re talking! Both of these teams are super entertaining, though The Usos certainly have the longest future together (can Sandow really carry on being used in a comedy act with such clear talent?). With The Ascension on the up, they’re going to need a strong babyface team to compete against going forward, and there is none stronger than The Usos, so it looks likely that they will retain the titles.

WWE Championship Match: John Cena vs. Brock Lesnar vs. Seth Rollins:

God I hope they don’t mess this up. Brock has to retain surely? Surely?? Surely?!?! At this point, nearly a year on from Brock Lesnar’s shock win over The Undertaker at last years ‘Mania, and after a year of dominating his opponents and a long term title reign, the only possible outcome that would make sense, and pay the story off would be if he makes it to Wrestlemania with the title intact and passes it on to an up and comer on the big stage. But if there’s anything I’ve learned from WWE over the years, it’s that sometimes they get a little twitchy. Stay the course WWE, do not mess this up.

Royal Rumble Match:

Yes! Yes! Yes! Daniel Bryan, this is your moment – unless they pull the trigger on Reigns, in which case, not so much. Realistically though, if Lesnar is going to be defeated at Wrestlemania, pushing his underdog competitor into superstardom, there is no bigger underdog than Bryan – The Eternal Underdog. But alas, Roman Reigns is a lurking spectre, and he’s clearly seen as the future of the company. In my eyes it’s too early for him, but this maybe, maybe his big moment.

I have now updated the post with the winners of each match to see if I’m ready for a new career as a psychic.
