To get everyone thoroughly in the mood for Halloween, for the next 10 days leading up to All Hallows’ Eve Flicks and Pieces will be recommending a classic horror film, TV show or game worth cracking out in time for the big day. Think of it as a Halloween advent calendar of sorts. But instead of chocolate and nice pictures of reindeers, you get a deliciously horrifying treat.
Day 1 of 10:
Wolf Creek (2005)

A wisecracking Aussie with a badass hat – what could possibly go wrong?
When a group of backpackers encounter car problems in outback Australia, thankfully they are offered help by a seemingly friendly rancher Mick Taylor (John Jarratt). Mick is the stereotypical Crocodile Dundee style wisecracking Aussie. But while Paul Hogan’s Mick from Crocodile Dundee is a rogue with a heart of gold, John Jarratt’s Mick is….not so much.
Beautifully shot by Will Gibson and directed by Greg Mclean, Wolf Creek is a methodically paced, eerie and terrifying experience worthy of beginning any Halloween binge.
“I’m going to do something now they used to do in Vietnam. It’s called making a head on a stick.” – Mick Taylor.
