Synopsis: Jobless, boyfriendless Donna (Jenny Slate) has her life turned upside down after a one-night stand with Max (Jake Lacy) leads to her falling pregnant.

Jenny Slate’s Donna is charming. Jake Lacy’s Max is charming. Basically everyone onscreen is charming, and their combined chemistry is even more so. The cast is a who’s who of TV comedy supporting actor royalty. Between Jenny Slate (Parks and Recreation), Jake Lacy (The Office, Girls), Gaby Hoffmann (Girls) and David Cross (Arrested Development), there’s more comedic talent than you can shake a stick at. Not that this necessarily means that it’s a laugh out loud comedy from start to finish. It’s funny – how could it not be with such a talented cast? – yet equally impressive is the dramatic depth that each cast member offers, particularly Slate and Lacy.

It’s a tale of the trials and tribulations of a twenty-something. You’ve likely seen similar stories told before, but not with quite as much wit and charm as Obvious Child delivers. As far as romantic comedies go, it’s about as refreshingly unromantic as you could possibly get. Just Go With It and The Proposal this most certainly is not, rather it’s a film for the millennial generation, one more realistic, open and honest about life. Step aside Sandra Bullock. Move over Jennifer Aniston. Jenny Slate has got your numbers.
