Back in 2010 when casting was underway for Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man, a campaign to cast Community’s Donald Glover in the titular role grumbled through the inter webs, but to no avail, as Andrew Garfield would eventually take up the mantle. But here we are, just five years later (sigh), with Webb and Garfield out, and Spidey heading over to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, leaving the hot seat vacant yet again. So who better to play Spider-Man than the man himself, Donald Glover?
In fact, he has already done so, in animated form in Ultimate Spider-Man as Miles Morales:
I think that we can all agree that we have seen enough of the Spider-Man origin story, with two cinematic versions in quick succession, and at this point if I have to see Peter Parker looking puzzled as he shoots webs around his bedroom again you can count me out. But a non Peter Parker version of Spidey would serve to freshen things up, and Glover would bring bucket loads of wit to the role.
So let us unite, and reignite the Donald Glover for Spider-Man campaign! Marvel – Make it so!!
Flicks and Pieces 
I am fully behind Glover as Spider-Man, he has a great screen presence and is a terrific actor.
I suspect that Sony won’t want to ditch Peter Parker as a character due to audience familiarity, so Morales seems unlikely. In either case (Parker or Morales) I think Glover would be a superb choice.

Parker is probably too recognisable for them to drop, I just hope that they skip the origin story, I’m feeling like it’s a path well trodden by now. Glover would be a breath of fresh air to the character, I have a feeling that they’ll go for a younger actor though unfortunately.

There are casting possibilities that got leaked, and they’re all White dudes AGAIN. I’m so sick of it, can’t we get a single Black superhero? I mean Captain America 2 helped a bit, but I’m talking about one of the BIG ones.

It’s absolutely time, and there’s non bigger than Spidey, there’s a version of the character that would feel fresh, and Glover would be perfect for the role – hopefully it’s not wishful thinking!

Black Panther’s coming in 2018, with a very possible first appearance in Civil War. And Sony and Disney are reported to be negotiating to bring Spidey into the MCU. Fingers crossed that Marvel’s surplus of audience goodwill will allow them to take a step away from the whitewashing. 👍

Looking at the list of supposed candidates for the role, the actors are the typical Peter Parker alike guys, no Glover, no diversity. We can but dream lol!
