Iron Jim on Avatar

“It’s fine to say, ‘Hey, we did all this unprecedented stuff’, but you have to be willing to go through the painful steps of creating those things and going from an idea to a prototype to a production-ready toolset in a very, very rapid timeframe.” – James Cameron.

Pioneer of visual effects technology, 3D cinematography, and motion capture, James “Iron Jim” Cameron is no stranger to pushing boundaries and forging new paths in filmmaking. For Avatar 2, 3, 4 and 5 (!!) he is looking for a very specific response from the audience it would seem:

“They’re gonna be bitchin’. You will shit yourself with your mouth wide open.”

Which is….odd. So there’s, erm, something to look forward to for us all(?)!

  1. That’s an actual quote? Hmm. Not sure I want to be in that audience! Ha.

Haha, yeah it’s Cameron’s insightful take on the Avatar sequels, very very strange!

      1. Honestly, I am not even thinking about those sequels and they aren’t on my radar. But maybe if his prediction is true, I might have to see one of them. Ha.

It’s certainly a bold claim from him! I don’t blame you, 3 sequels might be a bit much!!

      3. Why does everything have to keep going? (Money of course). That story ended fine! Well, it was an ending. Fine is debatable, but my point is the same. Ugh. I’m getting cynical as I get older. Ha.

Ha, I imagine James Cameron just has pits of money. I try not to judge him too hard, he did make Terminator which I’m quite partial to, but I could probably do without 3 Avatar sequels (or Terminator sequels for that matter)!

      5. I like The Abyss as well. But your sentiment exactly. The well is dry for all of that.

It’s not always about the money. I know for a fact that Jim makes films he wants to see and do. That’s why he doesn’t make many movies. He sincerely loves this world he’s created and wants to develop it more and more. He wants to see for himself how far it can go. So it’s not always what it appears to be on the surface. I was fortunate enough to work on the 1st Avatar for 2 1/2 years and got to see his process up close. I’ll tell you this: money is the furthest thing from his mind. I promise you.

That’s incredible, I can imagine it was a fascinating experience seeing him work! He’s certainly hugely ambitious in his filmmaking, you have to admire his efforts to create and develop new technology to bring his visions to life!
